On 3-2-1, that’s March 21, 2013, a 3-year national public service campaign to promote digital literacy begins, called EveryoneOn.
The EveryoneOn campaign represents a collaboration between libraries around the country, Connect2Compete (C2C), the American Library Association, the Public Library Association, the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), OCLC, the Ad Council, and many private corporations.
Go to Connect2Compete’s site for an overview of EveryoneOn. Here you will:
Also, visit www.everyoneon.org to see a preview of the website that is under construction for the general public.
This is a multi-year effort that will build over time. There is no obligation for any library/organization to do specific activities related to the campaign on 3/21/2013. The campaign is national, and media outlets will be invited to use EveryoneOn publicity materials to promote the importance of digital literacy in local communities. On 3/21, general public services announcements (PSAs), including TV, radio, print, billboard and mobile, will be distributed to media across the country. The first launch events will be hosted by C2C in selected cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia. You are encouraged to kick off your own local event(s) or promotions at any time.
An EveryoneOn campaign toolkit is available now to libraries who want to participate. Additional resources will be added in the coming months, but the toolkit already includes:
Public service announcements are being developed that will direct people to the everyoneon.org website, a mobile text short code, and a 1-800# to help people locate free digital literacy training resources. A social media effort focused on the digital newbie is also planned and will encourage people to “like” EveryoneOn on Facebook.
DigitalLearn.org is a brand new tool and resource for digital literacy support managed by the Public Library Association with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The site is currently in testing and will be fully available in the Summer of 2013. Learn more about DigitalLearn.org as it develops here.
